UBP is one of the major parties of the country, founded on 11 October 1975. The political position of UBP is in center-right. The flag of the UBP is white with the party emblem in the middle, as shown on a photo published in Courrier International in April 2003.

Republican Turkish Party (Cumhuriyeti Türk Partisi)

[CTP flag]by Onur Özgün

The Republican Turkish Party is a left party that was founded on 27 December 1970. After the partition of Cyprus in 1974, it continued its political life in Northern Cyprus. The party is known to have alternative opinions to president Denktash on the Cyprus issue. In the elections of December 2003, the CTP had the largest portion of the votes and participated to a coalition government founded with the Democrat Party. As of January 2004, its leader Mehmet Ali Talat is the prime minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

As shown on the party website, the emblem of the party includes two green grain ears on the sides and letters CTP and the foundation year of the party in the center. There are also alternative versions where colors (green and white) are reversed. The version I present here has 2:3 proportion, a white circular background for the emblem and a green background and figures. I have seen similar flags in the demonstrations before the elections.

Democrat Party (Demokrat Parti)

The Democrat Party is a nationalist party led by Serdar Denktash. It was founded by a group of deputies that left the UBP in 1992. It was the third party in the last elections and as of January 2004, it is the second party of coalition government with the CTP. Serdar Denktash is the son of president Denktash, who actively supported his son's party in election campaigns.

As shown on the former party website, the party flag includes two green olive branches on the sides of a circle. In the middle there is a green torch with red flames and letters DP in red.

Cyprus Justice Party (Kibris Adalet Partisi)

[Cyprus Justice Party]

The Cyprus Justice Party was founded in June 2003. It is of right tendency and sees the Annan Plan as unacceptable. It could not succeed enteingr the parliament in the last elections. The party website has a photo showing the party leader with the party flag. It is a white Cyprus map with a yellow sun figure above it, on red background. The Cyprus map is not north-south oriented. It is a bit (10-15°) twisted so that the north shores are parallel to the horizontal sides of the flag.
